Thank You Fairfax!

Recently I had the opportunity to spend the weekend in Fairfax, VA with some of our animal ambassadors for the annual Celebrate Fairfax! Festival.

We arrived Friday evening and checked into the hotel. It was supposed to have been a quiet night due to the fact we had to be at the festival early the following morning. Apparently, Otus the Screech Owl didn’t get the memo. He was making noises all night and I got up to check on him to find that he was soaking wet. He had been taking a 2 a.m. bath in his water bowl.

Saturday was hot, busy, but lots of fun. Most of our day was spent at the booth taking questions from festival-goers about the park, Williamsburg and the animals we had traveling with us that day. Our booth was directly across from the children’s area where we did several shows with the animal ambassadors for the kids. As always, the kids loved seeing and learning about the animals. I think it was a toss-up between Digger the Armadillo and Akisa the Red-Ruffed Lemur for the crowd favorite. By the end of the day on Saturday we were all exhausted and luckily, Otus let me sleep through the night.

The festival didn’t start until 11 a.m. on Sunday, so we were able to catch up on our rest. We had another great day talking to future park guests and giving animal demonstrations. We managed to take some time to eat some festival fudge and extremely sweet lemonade before heading back to Williamsburg.

Thanks to everyone we spoke to that weekend. We can’t wait to see you this summer!
