When you step into the Polar Pathway this year, you’ll be in for a shock. It’s a bit different than last year with a few new additions you’re sure to enjoy.
This year we have six magellanic penguins for our Christmas Town event. They are temperate climate penguins, meaning they live in warmer temperatures. Only five of seventeen species of penguin live in Antarctica. All others live in warmer climates. Our penguins like their habitat kept at 60° F, and the water around 65° F. They originated from places like Chile and Argentina.
As cute as these penguins are, you will be able to see a few more animal ambassadors this year. Once you enter, you will be greeted with our Snowy Owl, Suzy. She is only five months old so she is not fully white yet. She has a great personality and is very feisty. One of her favorite things to do is talk to us. As soon as she sees one of us, she starts communicating.
Next, you’ll get a chance to get up-close with two of our rabbits, including our giant Flemish rabbit named Coconut. They are both so cute and cuddly.
Before you enter the final room, two magellanic penguins, Maggie and Jordan, will greet you. They come to us from our sister park SeaWorld San Antonio. Maggie was with us last year for Christmas Town. They are four and five years old and a lot of fun. Maggie is a bit shy and is still getting used to us. However, Jordan is a bit of a flirt. He is very vocal and enjoys seeing people. I can’t wait for you to meet him.
Then comes the grand finale: the newly expanded penguin exhibit. This year’s exhibit is fantastic. It features four of our penguins from our sister park SeaWorld San Diego. It even has an area for them to swim. The penguins each have air sacs under their chest that keeps them buoyant and allows them to dive in the water and surface easily.
I hope you can visit Polar Pathway this Christmas Town. It’s so much fun to get to work with these animals, and we can’t wait to share them with all of you. I hope to see you there.
