Lifeguard Instructor Class at Water Country USA

The first week of 2011 started out extremely busy at Water Country USA, at least for me. I took my Lifeguard instructor class with six other future instructors. We train and certify all team members who are responsible for water safety using American Red Cross lifeguarding and shallow-water lifeguarding classes.

The instructors are often supervisors or experienced team members who have demonstrated strong teaching skills and proficiency with the material. They must attend a week-long class, pass all written tests and participate in practice teaching sessions with a lifeguard-instructor trainer. The lifeguard-instructor trainer then certifies they are authorized to teach for the Red Cross.I am thrilled to be a certified instructor because that means I can help teach classes for our team members this spring. We also certified an additional six instructors during the class. Those new instructors plus the returning instructors we have for 2011 gives Water Country USA a strong training team. This year, for the first time, Water Country USA will offer lifeguarding classes to the general public. Take a look at our website for more information. If you have children who are too young for lifeguard classes, we also are offering GuardStart, an introduction to lifeguarding for children 11-14 years old. If they are too young for GuardStart, check out our swim lessons online.

See you all this spring.
