Snow Days at Busch Gardens Williamsburg

Schools are closed! You got to stay home for the day because there are several inches of snow on the ground and you are snuggled in under a warm blanket with coffee and a great movie. It is a different story for our dedicated and passionate zoological team. Our animal care professionals are putting on several layers of clothing and braving the weather and the commute to take care of our zoological collection.

Happy New Year - Celebrating the Year of the Sheep at Busch Gardens

Happy New Year to All!

You may wonder why I am wishing you all a Happy New Year, well last Thursday marked the beginning of the Chinese New Year. As we say good bye to the year of the horse, we usher in the year of the Sheep (goat or ram). This spring festival dates back more than 2000 years. It is said that all of the animals were asked to meet on New Year’s Day to celebrate and only 12 animals arrived for the celebration. To reward all of the animals that did show up, a year was named after each animal.

Grazing Under Verbolten

As you’re walking past Verbolten, look down to the grass below and you may notice some of our Scottish Blackface sheep grazing on the hillside. The sheep are a part of our targeted grazing green initiative; the sheep help our landscape team by grazing in various areas of the park. Sheep in general spend up to 11 hours grazing every day. Our sheep spend about six hours a day under the Verbolten queue building and sometimes under the bridge grazing along the steep hills.

Meet Eddie

2014 is the year of the horse on the Chinese calendar so I thought it would be a good idea to introduce some of the horses who live at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. First, I’d like to introduce you to Eddie, who is 5 years old.
