Recently, the Park Operations leadership team at Water Country USA got together to recertify our lifeguarding skills. We spent a Saturday at Water Country USA practicing CPR, AED, and First Aid methods. The next day, the group met again to complete the classroom portion of lifeguarding review. Then we headed to the Hampton YMCA to practice those skills in the water.
On Saturday, March 31, millions of people will participate in Earth Hour, one of the world’s largest public environmental actions. At 8:30 p.m., people from across the globe will switch off the lights at their homes and businesses for one hour, and we will be one of those businesses. The act of turning off the lights helps acknowledge a commitment to go beyond the hour with actions that benefit the planet in the year ahead.
Remember back to Christmas 2010, when all 50 states had snow somewhere? This season has been warm enough to qualify as the “4thwarmest on record” for our area by the National Weather Service. We’ve become so spoiled to the nice temperatures. Lately, temperatures have been in the “record high” range.
Any good party or special event requires a list, right? All the things that need to get done and the priority involved in completing those items.
Opening the park in the spring has that same kind of urgency: lots to get done, and the sense that the length of the work list is inversely proportional to the time remaining to finish it.
