Stephanie - Animal Care Specialist

I get to spend my days caring for and training the amazing animals at the Highland Stables. Each day is a new adventure with our Clydesdales, Scottish blackface sheep, Border Collies and European barn owl.

I started my career in animal care and training back in my home state of Wisconsin. While in college I did an internship at Oceans of Fun in the Milwaukee County Zoo. There I was able to work alongside the trainers learning all about animal training and how to care for the collection of California sea lions and Atlantic harbor seals. I loved the experience so much that I stayed on for five years. In 2008, the experience I gained led me on a new journey to Williamsburg, Virginia and Busch Gardens.

I started my Busch Gardens career working with the eagles and other birds of prey at Eagle Ridge. There I trained my first official behavior - training a hawk to paint! I gained a lot of experience and learned that I am happy working with all animals and not just marine mammals.

In March of 2010 I started working at the Highland Stables as a seasonal animal care specialist. It was my first experience working with horses and sheep. In October of 2010, I became a full time Animal Care Specialist with a focus on animal training and took on the challenge of training Molly, our Border Collie, how to heard sheep. Molly and I learned together and I could not be more proud. You can catch her herding sheep, Greer the European barn owl flying, and our Clydesdales and sheep grazing behind the barn in Scotland.
